By After some careful thought and planning, we have decided to rethink our release plan for Going Down, specifically regarding the available platforms on launch.
We have considered our release options for Going Down very carefully, and have decided at this time to delay the Mac release of the game for now. While it’s important for us to release the game on as many platforms as possible to ensure the widest availability of the game to players, we’ve found that the Mac release, while originally planned to be available from day-one, simply isn’t viable for us at the moment.
The game has, until now, been developed primarily for Mac due to the majority of the game being developed on a Mac, however, we have shifted to focussing on the Windows inline with the overwhelming majority of players using Windows, and the issues faced when porting the game to Windows after being developed on a Mac.
The good news is that we are now planning to add Linux to our eventual planned release platforms, but don’t take that as confirmation as the Linux release is as-yet untested. It could all go horribly wrong.
The Mac release likely won’t be delayed for very long. It’ll probably be a few weeks at most, provided the Windows release sells at least a handful of copies- the bar is low here. It’ll just be a case of sorting out the matter of our Apple Developer license and such.
As for console releases, we have those in mind. We have kept console controllers in mind throughout development, both for those who prefer to play with controller on PC, and for the eventual console players we hope to welcome in the future. As long as the wonderful gatekeepers of the console marketplaces like us, then we will work on releasing on consoles. We’re currently thinking Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch. Again, don’t take this as confirmation, more as an announcement of intent- we want to do these things but we don’t know if we’ll be able to yet. All we can confirm is that we’ll give it 200% on our end.
